Can Federal job seekers ask for a raise?

by fred 11. May 2010

Because government salaries are based on a strict pay scale called the government schedule, people might think there is no way for growth when it comes to salaries. It is however not true. You can indeed ask for a raise if you are a government employee.

While just like in any civilian industry, asking doesn't mean you will get that raise, here are a few tips to get a raise:

  • Update your Federal resume with your new skills and experience to show you deserve that raise.
  • Study the government schedule
  • Ask for a higher salary within your grade
