When applying for a government job, using a standard resume format just won't work. The application process is significantly different from that of the private sector. To make your task as a job seeker less difficult a standard application format was created for anyone applying to government jobs. The Federal government resume format features all the critical data required by federal agencies. Keep in mind when preparing your resume that federal jobs are highly competitive and thus in order to make the best impression from your resume, there are certain guidelines that should be followed. The following is a list of the do's and don'ts you must follow when applying for government jobs.

  • Make sure that your contact information is up to date, thorough and that all personal data is given as requested.
  • School history should be provided in chronological order.
  • Wording is really critical for that reason your resume should contain all the relevant data in concise but informative sentences.
  • Be accurate while answering the questions in the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) essays. Bring out the value from your experience. Extra-curricular activities and internships that helped you gain certain talents can be outlined here.
