Writing a Thank You Letter is important

Because the Federal hiring process is so complex, landing an interview with Uncle Sam is often considered a victory and, if you are confident the interview went well, you might be tempted to just wait for the hiring manager to call you back. However, just like in the civilian sector, it is not a bad idea to follow up with a cover letter. Contrary to resumes, you can use the same format you would use for a civilian job. First thank the hiring manager for the interview and then emphasize the skills you have and how they match the requirements of their Federal jobs. Also, if there is something you forgot to mention during the interview, it's not a bad idea to include it in your thank you letter. As for sending the letter, you have the choice of using regular mail or can simply send it by e-mail.
