Warning! Federal Resumes Are Different

Now that you have brushed up on your resume writing skills, you've decided to apply for a job with the Federal Government, but guess what? Those resume writing skills won't help you here! Federal Resumes are not at all like a conventional resume.

In fact when you start to research this information, you may feel like you've opened a can of worms or maybe even Pandora's box. One of the differences between a federal resume and conventional resume is this: The purpose of a resume in the work-a-day world is to get you an interview! In the Federal arena the resume is graded on a points system based on qualifications, applicable experience, special bonus qualifications, correct format and structure and accurate placement of information within the resume. If you don't have all your T's crossed and I's dotted your resume will never get to the next level.

In fact in some cases a federal resume is not even seen by a real live person at the first level!

There are many things you need to know when applying for a federal position. You need to know which government format to use (resumix, OF-612, SES), you must know if there are KSA's required and how many, and if they require ECQ's or PTQ's and how many of them.

Your federal resume must be detailed including accomplishments and skills that apply to the position you are applying for and include performance ratings where you can.

Landing a Federal Government job has tremendous stability, incredible benefits and superb retirement packages. This can mean a lot to your family's future: don't risk it by cutting corners.

Make sure you are building a Federal resume that will meet the needs of the position you are applying for.
